We want to give you guys information on what you can eat when on the Paleo Diet, but we also want to promote the idea that it is a lifestyle change and not a diet, so occasionally we might make something “non-paleo” or we might go out and have beers with friends.  It happens, we’re all human.  We were attracted to the Paleo Diet because as soon as we tried it…we all started losing weight and feeling amazing.  Bryce is in the process of thoroughly reading the book by Loren Cordain, Ph. D.  You can find the link to his website over in the side bar if you are interested in reading more about the science behind the diet.  Here’s the basic idea though:

The Paleo Diet says we should be eating only what our paleolithic ancestors could have eaten because our bodies are not equipped to break down and digest so many of the processed, crappy foods, that the American diet is made up of today.  Some basic guidelines to what you can eat are as follows:

NOT ALLOWED
processed foods
salt
legumes
starches
refined sugars
corn
cheese, milk, dairy
breads, pasta, grains

ALLOWED
lean meats
vegetables
fruits
nuts
coconut milk

That looks like a small list, I know.  That is why we wanted to create this blog and show that there actually are a TON of awesome meals and foods we have come up with to eat.  We were scared first too.  It looked like a really boring diet and it eliminates quite a few of our favorite things (OH GOD I LOVE CHEESE!) However, again we should emphasize this is a lifestyle change, not a diet…so we might have some finals coming up…we might get stressed out…and we might order a totally greasy pizza to get us through the stress :P

So those are the basics…it looks lame and boring I am sure…BUT stay tuned and you will see that we have created some of the most delicious meals that have also been some of the most healthy any of us have ever eaten.  And I think we all have a new found love for cooking and creating new dishes.  Thanks again…and check back often for new posts!

Peace,
Chelsea
