A Little Lesson on Mental Health

Ok…so we’ve been pretty busy lately..and keep promising this recipe for a delicious paleo breakfast with spaghetti squash hashbrowns and turkey sausage patties…alas…life is happening around us…which is what this blog is about. Being healthy and making it work in our lives.

I was instantly inspired this morning when I had a hellish day at the hotel I work at.  Let me just say…people are seriously huge jackasses.  I mean…this is why everyone should work in the service industry…to realize exactly how difficult of a job it is.  Especially when you are also working a second job and going to school..as I am.  MOOOOVING along.  Long story short…I had a terrible morning. I did nothing but run and nobody tipped me. And when I left and got in my car I just started crying.  I cried because I realized I not only disliked this job because…it’s a job I have no interest in doing…but my entire attitude is changing. I can barely force myself to smile at the people that walk through the door now.  And that makes me feel even worse about myself.  I don’t even want to do well in the job anymore because I know how these people are going to treat me.  My message is…

IT SHOULDN’T MATTER. Kill them with kindness anyways.  At least if you are always doing your job and being happy and doing your best…you have nothing to be ashamed of.

So I decided I needed to start meditating again.  I was really unhappy a couple years ago. Sad…chubby…stuck in a rut.  And when I started meditating then, it helped a ton.  So I thought I would share with all of you that tip because being healthy in your mind is as important as having a healthy body!  So here are the two websites that started me out…reading about chakras and energy flow through the body as well as a website with some simple guided meditations.  If you really like it…I would recommend picking up a book on meditation and start learning about the theories and different practices…because not only is it very interesting…it is amazing how much you learn about yourself, how much more aware of the activity in your body and mind you become. It’s great…and it really does lead to a lowered amount of stress, a more positive outlook on life, and just a generally lighter and happier feeling in your body.  So I suggest these two sites to start you out :)
